Praemon is the writing arm of NSSA that functions as BYU's premier global affairs analysis hub. Undergraduate students of all majors and minors are encouraged to work with our editors to find a topic of interest based on recent and/or current events of geopolitical significance.

A growing arena of great-power rivalry lies hidden beneath the world’s attention: the Arctic. Uninhabited, isolated, and cold, it is also warming faster than any other region on Earth, transforming from a frozen frontier into a contested geopolitical stage. As the ice melts, two of America’s greatest competitors, Russia and China, are carving footholds in this new domain, while the U.S. struggles to define its role.

What we are looking for:

  • A 900 - 2000 word analytical piece that takes the form of an article, book review, or interview with a career professional. This is not the place for academic research, opinion pieces, or other styles of writing.
  • A topic of your choice, based on recent/current events of geopolitical significance that falls under the umbrella of national security.
